Before I get to the gist of this article, let me briefly describe the various sources in which you can obtain traffic from:

#1- Social media

This is one of the worst area that you want to get your traffic from because it usually means high bounce rate. People who enter your site are merely browsing through the social media or are searching for interesting stuff to look at. Unless you are sure that your article could capture their attention, I wouldn’t recommend to get your traffic in here. On the other hand, this could be a good avenue to get some good backlinks.

#2 – Forums

Using forum to drive traffic could be a good method if you know the proper approach or it will be just as bad as social media. Deep in your mind, you must know that your main focus is to look for traffic that might be interested in your products and not just any other tom dick or harry. Therefore, the right technique would be to browse the forum to see what problems that people are facing and hopefully your product could resolve it. Never do any for of selling in forum because that could get you ban. Instead, write a compelling signature that will answer their problems so that they will subconsciously click on it.

#3 – Bum marketing

This was a popular method few years back but now it isn’t as effective. The reason is because internet marketers are using article directories as a way to build links and thus the quality of articles are getting worse. Over time, people turn to blogs for information since the article directories couldn’t solve their problem. However, authority article directories such as EzineArticles and GoArticles might still work well. But, I have not been using this method quite some time back so I advise you to avoid this.

#4 – Comment marketing

Not really sure how effective is this but I heard positive feedback on this. The strategy is to comment on the authority blogs in your niche since they have high traffic volume and hoping that visitors will click on your URL. To be honest, a lot of work is involve in here and I wouldn’t recommend this too.

There are still other ways of getting traffic but it is really insignificant and we should really be focusing on tapping larger traffic stream as opposed to the smaller ones. So, our large traffic stream is none other than the search traffic.

It is so common that whenever people are faced with a problem, they will on their computer and head straight to Google and hit the search button. This has become the most convenient way to get information and this is what we are really interested in. We don’t have to look for people who are interested in reading our article but instead it is the opposite way. People are looking for our blogs to provide them with the information and this source of traffic is termed as the targeted traffic.

Because of this, targeted traffic is so much more powerful than the other sources. When they people are met with a problem, you give them a solution and recommend a product if it is relevant. It is as simple as this. So work towards getting targeted traffic instead of spending hours doing commenting and scanning the forums. Your time will be better spent if you work on getting more links and ranking your site high in the search engines.

Your website will eventually be indexed by search engines if you don’t perform any black hat tricks or any unusual influx of backlinks to your blog. Search engines have spiders which are bots that crawl to webpages to collect information and indexed it. However, this does not happen frequently should your blog be new. Although we cannot control the crawling of the search engine spiders, we can hasten the process.

Tips To Get Indexed Faster

1) Submitting URLs to directories

This process is self explanatory and there are tons of web directories in which you can search for in Google. Submitting URLs to web directories help to hasten the time taken to index your webpage because web directories are almost being crawled by Google spider every single day. If your link if found on the web directories, the spiders will follow the link and crawl to your page as well.

2) External links

Having an external link from a website which has already been indexed by Google will hasten the process of your blog being indexed as well. The idea is to have your link found on a website that is frequently crawled by search engine spiders and thereby follow the link back to your blog. This can be easily done if you have friends to help you or perhaps try your luck in link exchange.

3) Writing articles

Submitting article to article directory like EzineArticle, GoArticle and ArticleDashboard is another way to hasten the process of being indexed by search engines. These article directories are crawled by Google frequently because they have a lot of fresh content every single hour. Therefore, it would be good to get some single article links through them.

4) Pinging search engines

If you are a wordpress user, then this process is automatically done for you when you post an article. But for other CMS, you can go to Pingomatic and ping the search engines to notify them of your fresh content.

5) Submit feed to RSS directory

This method has work pretty well for me and I usually got indexed in less than 48 hours. These are the 3 directories that I always used to submit my feed – Technorati, Feedagg and Feedraider. It takes you at most 5 minutes to do this so why not give it a shot!

6) Regular content

Search engines love blog because they are frequently updated with fresh content. Therefore, by posting to your blog regularly, it helps in getting indexed. But writing content regularly does not mean posting crap articles. Write useful post that answer that queries of the search visitors.

By following these few tips, you will be able to get index fast enough and start building links to your site. Remember that links are the only way to get your ranking high in the SERPs.

SEOs is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via organic search results for targeted keywords. Simply put, it means improving the position of your website on the Search Engine Results Page. (SERP)

What Is SERP?

SERP is a list of webpages shown on the search engines for a particular keyword search. The list of webpages usually contains title, a short description of the content and also a link to the page. Therefore, when I said ranking high on SERP, it means getting listed on the top few positions of the results page for a keyword search.

Black Hat Vs White Hat SEOs

Have you heard of the differences between these 2 approaches of SEOs? As the name suggests, black hat SEOs is not an accepted technique to use by search engines and will be penalized. On the other hand, white hat SEOs is the technique that I will be teaching you later on this article. But, I will briefly run through the various type of technique that is known as black hat. I am not encouraging you to use it but instead to let you know so that you would avoid implementing it on your blog. Below are the few commonly used black hat SEOs which you may or may not know, falls under the black hat category:

1) Mass blog networks

This is to set up 50-100 blogs targeting different keywords and linking to the main blog. For example, when you use Google Adwords keyword tool, you will find a list of similar keywords that people have search. Thus, instead of just targeting 1-2 keywords, people who uses black hat SEO create a network of blogs targeting the entire list of keywords provided by Google. They will then link it back to the main blog.

2) Overcrowding of keywords

Overcrowding the site with your targeted keywords are also considered black hat incase you don’t know about this. These sites basically have very little content and most of it is filled with keywords. Their purpose is to rank high on search engines and get individuals to buy their products.

3) Invisible text

This means placing white text on a white background which means that readers are unable to see it thus naming this as invisible text. The text usually contains keywords which are not wanted to be viewed by readers but will be seen by search engine spiders.

4) Redirecting

This is used when a site gets rank pretty high on the search engines. Therefore, instead of getting visitors to read their site, they redirect it to their affiliate sales copy. Although this method does not help in improving your SEOs, it makes use of the SERP rankings to redirect visitors to a sales page instead of its own website.

2 Approaches To Improve White Hat SEOs

There only 2 approaches to improving SEOs – mainly on page SEOs and off page SEOs. On page SEOs means action in which you can take on your own website to improve on SEOs. This basically means the usage of titles, tags etc.
Off page SEOs means action you need to take outside of your own website which is building backlinks.

How To Improve Off Page SEOs

The only way to improve your off page SEOs is by building backlinks. Build natural and quality backlinks overtime. Forum marketing, comment marketing and article marketing are all great ways to build 1 way link.

Reciprocal links has lesser weightage compared to 1 way link because there are simply too many websites that try to engage in link exchanging as a way to improve SEOs. If you really want to do link exchanging, then I suggest you using triangular linking.

Triangular linking means Site A will link to Site B, Site B will link to Site C and Site C will link to Site A. Thus this creates a 1 way link to your site.

With that said, reciprocal link is better than no link. But if the situation allows, always opt for 3 way link.

6 Ways To Improve On Page SEOs

1) Title tags

Name each of the individual articles with the keywords you wish to target. It will look something like the image below.

This title tag is the link that will appear on search engine thus it is important to choose the right title. You can used SEO Title Tag plugin to edit your articles if you are a wordpress user. For blogger user, the title that we used for the article will be part of the title tag. Therefore, make sure you have your keyword in the article title.

2) Tags

Using of proper tags for every of your post helps in SEO as well. If you remember, I have told you to use the tags on every of your published articles as it will be helpful in your SEOs.

3) Sitemaps

Submit to Google Webmasters and it makes the spiders crawled to the page that are deep into your root directory as well. For blogger, our sitemap is located at http://sitename.blogspot.com/atom.xml

4) Internal linking

Internal linking are good for building backlinks. This is also effective in improving your SEOs. Find those articles that have been neglected by search engines and pass some link love to it as well. Do not let your old articles go down the drain.

5) Use of proper permalinks

Avoid using long links. Search engines often favor the page closest to the root directory. Simply put, your permalinks should be like this http://sitename.com/postname. For my case, I have a long URL which includes the year and month that I published my articles because we are not able to control the permalinks that is on blogger.

6) Use of robots.txt

Robot.txt is a file which gives instructions to tell search engines spiders which pages are to be ignored and not to be indexed. The purpose is to stop the pages from appearing in search engines to prevent any duplicate issue.
